Who-da thunk?

Our dishwasher had a stainless-steel door that would not, would not, would NOT come clean — streaks everywhere no matter what cleansers I tried.  Due to its unsightliness, my hubby and I talked about replacing the appliance with a new one… but as some of you may have discovered, not all dishwashers are created equal… and some just don’t clean the dishes as well as others.  Our old clunker does a fantastic job of cleaning the dishes, so I was loath to replace it.   So, we contacted our local appliance repair shop and asked if a new door cover could be ordered.  After much research the conclusion was that there was not a replacement cover in white (which is what we needed to coordinate with other appliances in our kitchen).

BEFORE – Dishwasher to left of stove…

Stubborn as always, my mind began to explore the idea of covering the door with some sort of paper medium (wallpaper, maybe?)…  I began to research my favorite source for ideas (Pinterest!) and I soon discovered that contact paper (what? really?) may be used to cover appliances!

Now We’re Talkin’

I headed on over to Amazon and chose this groovy print as the perfect accent to my grey and white kitchen cabinets…

Groovy Print!

Upon its arrival at my door I handed the paper roll over to my husband (who is more comfortable measuring and using an exact-o knife than me!) and he took the door off the dishwasher and set it on the kitchen counter to apply the contact paper…

The directions are printed right on the back of the paper!  Easy Peasy!

TA-DA!

Here’s the final product!  First off, this busy print shows nothing! — it disguises splatters and streaks.  The soft, waxy coating of the contact paper is a breeze to clean (just wipe with a damp sponge)…  And the contact paper has held up beautifully… it’s been over a year since we covered the door, and so far it’s adhesion is perfect!  No peeling at the seems or edges!

Makes this corner of of the kitchen POP!

GROOVY TOWN!

Okay, we added new flooring too… which really tied these mediums together with a pretty bow!
